Talking magazines
Spotify is bringing magazines to life, offering audio versions of magazine articles.
An extension of their Audiobooks offering “more than 650 articles from publications including Rolling Stone, The Atlantic, Vogue, Variety, Billboard, Vibe, GQ, Wired, Vanity Fair, and Pitchfork will be available.”
Users get them bundled within the premium plan, or can buy specific pieces for $1.99. Their audio stack now covers short (magazine article), medium (podcasts) and long (audiobooks). Providing rich consumer choice.
If Spotify can build a sizable audience for this content, it presents a new opportunity for brands to meet consumers where they are.
With video, we have clips, short interviews and then a jump to documentaries. But, how much video is run on captions without the sound on? Now we have a full equivalent stack in audio for brands to tell their stories and bring their voice to consumers.
